How the hardware works

Hardware questions, answered by the people who fit the devices. The trade-offs below are physical and no supplier can talk their way around them.

How long does a battery-powered asset tracker last?

It depends entirely on how often you ask it to report, because transmitting is what drains the battery. A tracker reporting once a day lasts dramatically longer than one reporting every few minutes. For plant that sits on a site for weeks between moves, an infrequent schedule with movement-triggered reporting gives long service life. We set the interval against the expected life you need rather than selling a single fixed figure.

Can you track equipment that has no power supply?

Yes, with a battery-powered asset tracker, which carries its own power and needs nothing from the item it is attached to. This covers trailers, generators, containers and plant. For smaller items, a BLE tag is cheaper but works differently: it is detected when a tracked vehicle or gateway passes near it, so coverage depends on that traffic rather than being continuous.

What can BLE sensors measure?

Temperature and humidity, door open and closed state, and light. They report to a nearby tracker, which forwards the readings over the mobile network. Several sensors can report from one vehicle, which is what a multi-compartment refrigerated body needs when it carries chilled and frozen product on the same run.

Which GPS tracker manufacturers does Yipii use?

Teltonika, Ruptela, Digital Matter and Queclink. We choose per application rather than standardising on one vendor, because vehicle units, battery asset trackers and sensor gateways have genuinely different strengths across those ranges. Whichever device is fitted, it reports into the same platform.

What is the difference between OBD and hardwired installation?

An OBD device plugs into the diagnostic port under the dashboard, takes under a minute, and can be moved between vehicles. A hardwired install is connected into the vehicle wiring by an auto-electrician, is concealed, and can connect directly to the CAN bus for a wider set of engine parameters. Immobilisation and engine cut-off need the wired connection, so they are not available on a plug-in device.
