A construction fleet is not one fleet. There are vehicles with a permanent power supply, plant that runs an engine but sits on a site for weeks, and equipment with no power at all that still walks off site. Each needs a different device, and they belong on one dashboard.

Three device types for three problems
A powered vehicle takes a hardwired tracker. Plant with an engine takes a tracker wired to the supply, reporting engine hours rather than only distance. Equipment with no power takes a battery-powered asset tracker or a BLE tag, which reports on its own schedule and lasts on a battery for an extended period.

Site geofences
A geofence around each site records what arrived, what left and when. When a machine leaves a site outside working hours, that is an alert rather than a discovery on Monday. Where plant is on hire, the same geofence tells you whether the machine is where the hire agreement says it is.

Utilisation, not just location
Engine hours show which machines are working and which are parked while being paid for. Across a plant fleet, that is usually the difference between the machines you need and the machines you are storing. Hardwired installs with a CAN connection add fault codes, fuel and temperature.

Immobilisation
On a hardwired installation, immobilisation and engine cut-off are available. This suits high-value plant and machines that stay on open sites. It needs a wired connection, so it is fitted by our auto-electricians and is not available on a plug-in device.

When Yipii is not the right fit
Cases where you should look at something else, or budget for a second system alongside this one.
- Tracking hand tools individually at low cost. BLE tags work, but they report when a tracked vehicle or gateway passes near them, so coverage depends on that traffic. They do not report continuously on their own.
- A battery asset tracker reporting every few seconds is expected. Reporting intervals on battery devices are a trade against battery life, so they report on a schedule rather than continuously.
- A full plant hire management or invoicing system is needed. Yipii covers tracking, utilisation and maintenance scheduling, and exposes the data by API, but it is not a hire desk.

- Can Yipii track equipment that has no power supply?
- Yes. Battery-powered asset trackers suit trailers, generators, containers and plant with no permanent supply. BLE tags cover smaller items and are detected when a tracked vehicle passes near them.
- Can we see engine hours rather than distance?
- Yes. For plant that idles more than it travels, engine hours are the useful measure. Maintenance schedules can be set against engine hours rather than calendar dates or kilometres.
- Can a machine be immobilised remotely?
- Yes, on hardwired installations. Immobilisation and engine cut-off need a wired connection, so our auto-electricians fit them. They are not available on plug-in OBD devices.
- Can vehicles and plant sit on the same dashboard?
- Yes. Vehicles, powered plant and battery-powered assets all report into the same platform, with geofences, alerts and reporting applied across the whole set.
